Finding the perfect Valentine’s present for your loved one made simple at the annual ‘Pain, amour et chocolat’ show next week in Antibes.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, shops everywhere will be selling out of red roses, cuddly toys and those huge heart-shaped boxes of delicious chocolates this week. So why not surprise your sweetheart and head over to Antibes to the ‘Pain, amour et chocolat‘ show, running from the 14th to 17th February 2013 in Place Nationale in Antibes.
Organized by the town of Antibes in conjunction with the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Nice and the Chamber of Arts and Crafts for the Alpes-Maritimes, the show will be celebrating love in all its forms, and more specifically the simple pleasures of love, bread and chocolate.
Visitors to the show can enjoy demonstrations of how to make bread, cakes, sweets and chocolates by the very best of local and international craftsmen, plus competitions and a tombola with some fabulous prizes. There are also lots of activities for children including healthy eating lessons, an art competition, a face painting stall, a Valentine’s Day themed treasure hunt in the streets of Antibes and workshops where they can get their hands nice and sticky, plus of course there will be lots of opportunities for those of you with a sweet tooth to try all the different goodies on offer.
This year there will also be a more artistic theme to the exhibition and during the 3 day show you will be able to enjoy a contemporary art exhibition with paintings by Myriam Paradisi and Harriet Macaree at the Galerie Municipale Les Bains Douches, a poetry reading by Eric Derrien who will be reading the world’s most beautiful love letters out loud and a poetry/dance recital at the Théâtre Antibéa, performed by Eric Derrien, Frédérique and Sophie from the SOF Company.
For those of you who are looking for a soul mate to share Valentine’s Day with, there will also be a Speed Dating event organized by the students of Sophia Antipolis on Thursday 14th February from 17h00 – 18h30. If you do find the person of your dreams and you want to improve your chances of wooing them, earlier the same day from 10h00 – 12h00, Eric Derrien will be holding a love-letter writing workshop during the show!
On Friday the 15th February at 15h30 in the Salle des Associations, Cours Masséna, there will also be a free screening of the Italian film “Lezioni di cioccolato” the heart-warming tale of Kamel, an illegal immigrant who arrives in Italy from Egypt to work in the building trade, but who wins a place in a chocolate making competition, and Mattia, his Italian boss, who ends up standing in for him in the competition following an accident on the building site.
This will be followed on Saturday the 16th February by a screening of the sequel “Lezioni di Cioccolato 2” which picks up the tale of Kamel and Mattia 4 years after the original story left off. The sequel is a comedy of errors as we see Kamel trying to run his struggling bakery shop whilst Mattia has gone back to his work in the building trade. Mattia has met a new girlfriend who turns out to be his friend Kamel’s daughter but luckily everything is resolved in the end through love and chocolate!
This is now the 7th consecutive year that the ‘Pain, amour et chocolat’ show is being held in Antibes, and with hand-made chocolates, sweets and cakes on sale from the very best Italian and French bakers, pastry chefs, and confectioners, all based around the theme of love with a capital L, you’re sure to find the ideal Valentine’s Day present for your sweetie.
Entry is free from 10am til 7pm and the show runs from the 14th to 17th February. The full programme of events for the weekend is available on the ‘Pain, amour at chocolat‘ website. Remember, come Valentine’s Day all you need is love, but a little chocolate every now and then doesn’t hurt either!
