The organisers of Carnaval de Nice have included a new addition to the line-up for the 2013 event, with some Rock’n’Roll running to keep everyone on their toes!

Sometimes when you participate in long distance races, you reach a point when you ask yourself why you are actually running. This February, sweating out those long miles may become a little easier, with the first ever Rock’n’Roll Nice 10 Miles which takes place on Sunday the 17th, right in the middle of all the festivities of Carnaval.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll running series are becoming more and more popular around the world, with their unique combination of entertainment and running, allowing participants to discover a touristic destination in a truly party atmosphere. They started out in 1998 with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego, and are now organized in 28 American cities and 5 other European cities (Lisbon, Edinburgh, Madrid, Oslo and Dublin).

In Nice, the musically themed race will begin at 9:30am on the Promenade des Anglais and will end 16 kilometers later on Place Masséna, following Carnaval’s famed parade route. Local bands and enthusiastic cheerleaders will be positioned along the way to entertain and motivate the participants, transforming the event into one big, long, concert.

Registration for the race is now open. If you enroll between 1st November and 31st December, the entrance fee is €20. Between 1st January and 10th February, this fee increases to €23. If you like leaving things until the last minute, you can book in on the day before the race (16th February), and this will set you back all of €28. There is also a special registration offer of just €30 for those wishing to participate in both this race and the Prom Classic in early January 2013.

All runners will receive finishers’ medals and t-shirts at the end, and will also have a chance to raise money for their chosen charities. The icing on the cake though, all participants will be able to experience the opening celebrations on Friday evening, the 15th February, as well as both the Carnaval’s famed Bataille des Fleurs and the Festival of Lights on the day prior to the race.

A superb location, a fun course, lots of great music and guaranteed great support from the Carnaval crowds all along the route…this unusual race is undoubtedly going to become one of the must-do events in the region.

And between 7th and 28th December, you can enter the Carnaval de Nice competition to be in with a chance to win some great prizes, like VIP Passes to the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10 Miles du Carnaval, and entry to Carnaval events!
