It sometimes takes an outsider to make the residents of the beautiful French Riviera realise how truly blessed they really are.
One such personality is former royal correspondent of The Sun and TODAY newspapers, Charles Rae, who, over the decades has visited the Côte d’Azur for work and private holidays.
“My latest visit was in October last year to Cannes, one of the stop off points on our Mediterranean cruise”, says Charles who has just published his third book “Fleet Street Frolics“.
“I have made a number of private visits to the area with my family over the years and the main attraction is obviously the fantastic sunshine. The same sunshine also attracts the rich and famous. My working life has also seen me visit the are on many occasions for visits by Princess Diana, Sarah, the Duchess of York, Sir Elton John and many other celebrities who were in the public eye at any particular time.”
Charles’ Riviera travels have taken him to St. Tropez, Antibes, Nice, Cap d’Antibes, Villefranche and Monaco, Port Grimaud, St. Paul de Vence, St. Jean Cap Ferrat : “I like the variety of restaurants and the Riviera way of life. I like the intimacy of the smaller areas as well as the hustle and bustle of the bigger towns and cities as well as the friendliness of the people. A visit to the French Riviera will always be on the agenda.”
“Fleet Street Frolics” covers Charles career as a crack journalist reporting top stories including Princess Diana’s last St. Tropez holiday weeks before she was killed in a tragic car crash which also took the life of her companion, Dodie Fayad. That will be a visit to St. Tropez Charles will never forget.
