It’s official! Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be bringing their On the Run II tour to the State Allianz Riviera in Nice this July.
Speculations had been running wild for the last few days after a posting briefly appeared last week on Ticketmaster about a joint concert in Philadelphia on the 30th of July. The confirmation finally came on Monday in the form of three messages on Queen B’s official Instagram account: She and her husband, Jay-Z, are about to hit the road together again. The On the Run II tour will start in Cardiff on the 6th of June and will continue through Europe and the U.S., with two stops scheduled in France, the first on the 14th of July in Paris and three days later at the Allianz Riviera in Nice.
It has been four years since the powerful couple first joined forces. From June to September 2014, they performed some of their greatest hits in front of millions of fans, including “Crazy in Love” and “I Just Wanna Love U”. The film that was made of the tour “On the Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay-Z” earned an Emmy nomination for Oustanding Special Class Program.
No setlist has yet been announced, but if husband and wife are expected to each perform their most famous songs, they should also team up for a multitude of duets, similar to their recent joint Grammy performance. The tour should also reflect on the emotional turmoil the two have experienced the last few years as a couple. In 2016, Mrs Carter had released “Lemonade”, which offered an intimate look at her love life in the wake of her husband’s infidelity, while the following year, it was Mr. Carter’s turn to respond with what amounted to a public apology opus, “4:44”. Performing side by side on stage, songs from those two albums should thus be the final act of this very public love story and musical adventure.
The post that sent both stars’ fandom into a frenzy consisted of two black and white photos—one of Beyoncé standing up behind Jay-Z on a motorcycle and one of an abandoned car with the license plate “J+B” — as well as of a video montage featuring the pair on stage with the words, “This is not real life” cryptically flashing across the screen near the beginning of the clip.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z play the Stade Allianz Riviera in Nice on Tuesday, 17th of July 2018 at 7:30pm. Tickets will go on presale at 10:00 am on Friday, 16th of March and can be purchased through all the usual outlets or reserved online.
