The world renowned Cannes Film Festival will be moving to a new location, if plans for the project find the necessary investment.
Invitations for architects, designers and developers to submit their proposals for a new home for the Festival de Cannes have been published both locally and internationally. The festival, having been housed in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on the Croisette for the last 30 years, needs a more modern and accomodating home.
The proposed site for the project is a 4.2 hectare seafront property in Cannes La Bocca. The footprint of the new accomodations are estimated to be in the region of 15,000 square metres, with a construction budget of somewhere between €150 – €200 million required for the realisation of the project.
With works on such a grand scale as this, one expects the major construction organisations, both national and international, to be presenting themselves front and centre when the deadline for receipt of expressions of interest comes around on the 1st March, 2013.

Such a project, according to Mayor Bernard Brochand, will ensure the future of the Festival de Cannes for a long time to come. He hopes to present more, ahem, concrete details of the project at this year’s festival.
