28th August : Opéra: La Fille du Régiment | 2h40

La Fille du Régiment is a comic opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti. A precursor to Offenbach, this military opera about a vivandière, Marie, adopted at birth by a French regiment, doubles as a sentimental fable and a comical confrontation between two opposing worlds, those of the bivouac and the aristocracy. Laurent Pelly seizes this peak of bel canto with his usual vivacity. By transposing the work to the Franco-Prussian War rather than the Napoleonic Wars and by adapting the dialogue, the director modernises the work without sacrificing any of its brilliance. Note: the performance starts at 9pm.

Save these dates in your diary and come enjoy some blockbuster movies with friends and family under the summer evening skies of Cannes.

Doors open each night at 9pm and films start at 10pm (with the exception of 28th August). Free admission, subject to availability. Please note that screenings and performances are also subject to favourable weather conditions.
