It’s almost that time of year again when we start thinking Movember – growing moustaches is our business, and business is good!

Who would have thought that by simply growing a moustache for a month, a global movement would evolve that, in the space of less than a decade, would be raising awareness and substantial funds for men’s health, particularly pancreatic cancer.

Since its inception back in 2004 in Australia, the Movember movement has grown exponentially (from a mere 30 participants in the first year to over one million last year), and has now expanded its funding programmes to cover not only pancreatic, but also testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues.

One of the most important programmes is the Movember Global Action Plan (GAP) which was established to support one large international research initiative each year.

The GAP aims to attract the best prostate cancer researchers in the world to collaborate on tackling some of the key challenges that will help find better tests and treatment options for men affected by prostate cancer. The GAP sits alongside and complements existing programmes run by Movember’s beneficiary partners around the world.

Your style guide for Movember 2013

So, you want to get involved and become a Mo Bro? The sign up process is very simple, just register online on the Movember website, and you’re good to go!

However, there are a number of rules that you will need to acquaint yourself with before going off half-cocked growing your Trucker or Abracadabra!

1. You must begin on the 1st of Movember with a clean-shaven face.

2. For the entire month of Movember you will grow and groom a moustache — see above for some suggestions!

3. There is to be no joining of the mo to your sideburns — that is considered to be a beard.

4. There is to be no joining of the handlebars to your chin — that is considered a goatee.

5. As a Mo Bro, you must conduct yourself like a true gentleman.

We will also be encouraging Mo Sistas to join us in our fundraising effort. Further details will be confirmed in the coming week, so stay tuned. Today, with the support of hundreds of thousands of Mo Bros, Mo Sistas and their donors, Movember is fulfilling its vision: To have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.

Members of Generation Moustache don’t just accept the responsibility, they welcome it. The road less travelled will be their path; they will be united under one flag. They will not stop until they are heard. Crank up the volume, make some noise and fight the good fight.

Remember, if you don’t like our moustaches, we don’t like your laws!
