Place Garibaldi in Nice will be the venue for a mass demonstration this January in support of same-sex marriage in France.

Jointly organised by Le Centre LGBT Côte d’Azur and l’association AGLAE, in conjunction with myriad other interest groups, this demonstration is being held to show support for the government’s plan to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption, one of the key electoral pledges of Socialist President Francois Hollande.

The march is planned for Saturday, 19th January, starting at 3pm in Place Garibaldi in Nice. This coincides with similar events planned by the Fédération LGBT in more than 30 cities throughout France, including Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, Marseille, Nancy, Metz, Strasbourg, Nantes, Rennes, Angers, and Orleans, under the banner of ‘2013, L’ÉGALITÉ MAINTENANT : Mariage – Filiation – Adoption – Procréation – État civil. These demonstrations are in direct response to the anti gay marriage protests planned in Paris for Sunday next, the 13th January.
