An overnight stay in the beautiful Panoramic Suite of the Riviera Marriott La Porte de Monaco proved to be just what the doctor ordered!

Attending a joint social and business event at the Riviera Marriott recently, I decided to treat myself and spend the night in their Panoramic Suite. This proved to be a good decision, since the whole experience from start to finish was seamless.

Having parked under the hotel and entered reception I was greeted in a courteous and friendly manner and shown to the suite on the 8th floor. As soon as the porter had left, I went straight onto one of my two balconies. The view is spectacular – the yachts, harbour and open sea in one direction and the beach and headland of Cap d’Ail and sea in the other.

Both balconies are generous, with one having a table and 2 chairs and the other, a table, 4 chairs and 2 sun loungers. However, what was really striking was the complete tranquillity of the location. There was no traffic, no hordes of tourists, just peace and calm and yet right on the edge of Monaco!

The suite itself was bright and spacious and yet with the all-important blackout curtains ensuring a good night’s sleep. Reminiscent of the interior of a deluxe yacht cabin with its dark wood, contemporary furniture and shades of beige, vanilla and blue lagoon it had a very calming effect. The bed was very large and comfortable and the bedding was sumptuous, silky, soft and cool. Should you so wish, you can purchase it and I would have been sorely tempted had I not been on a bed linen buying fest a couple of weeks before!

The large sliding windows make sure that you can’t miss the spectacular view. The suite itself is large enough to accommodate 4 people since, in the separate lounge, there is a large sofa bed, table and 4 chairs, desk and chair and large flat-screen TV which doubles as a computer, as does the TV in the bedroom.

The bathroom enjoys extremely high quality fittings with a beautiful wooden vanity unit, bath with shower over and separate shower. The generous sized complimentary toiletries were by Occitane and even included foot cream, hand cream and some products for men. It was a pleasure to get ready in this environment.

The event I attended in the very pretty, newly revamped terrace bar which adjoins the pool was superb. The BBQ food was excellent, accompanied by extremely enjoyable wines and the service was attentive, gracious and unassuming, talking of which, I forgot to hang out my breakfast order between 8pm and 3am and so sheepishly rang the order in at 8 the next morning. I was greeted with a “certainly, straight away Madam” and it arrived 7 minutes later, brought by a lovely lady who effortlessly switched from French to English once she realised my nationality. The service was something I really loved here. In all areas of the hotel, to quote Tina Turner, it was simply the best!

I truly had meant to make use of the state of the art gym the next morning but, frankly, I chickened out and chose the pastries on my balcony instead. However, the intention had been there and I did pop my head round the door! So, all in all, what can I say? A great experience. Would I go back there? You bet I would!
