If you are looking for new ways to challenge yourself in 2014 and also looking to have some fun, then we say that it’s time to get dirty!

The first event, the Mud Day, held in Peyrolles on the 12th of April, will not only test your endurance but also your mental limits, your strength and your vitality. Organized for the first time in France last September in Paris, this 13-kilometer challenge has no less than 22 crazy obstacles, including muddy crawls and giants slides.

Individual entries are accepted, but we recommend forming your own “mud team”, as the race emphasises camaraderie and team spirit. After all, what really matters is not the time it takes to complete the course, but rather getting through it and enjoying that well-deserved Mud Beer after crossing the finish line!

And for those who just can’t get enough mud and want to release their “inner warrior”, the Spartan Race will be back at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Var on the 12th of October.

After a very successful first edition which attracted a mixure of beginners, regular runners and hardcore thrillseekers, the event promises to be as crazy as ever with some 21 obstacles spread out over, once again, a 13 km circuit.

Created in 2001 by eight sport enthusiasts and voted the “Best Obstace Race” by Outside Magazine in 2012, the events are now being held all over the world. And if the organizers do not provide a course map or a list of the challenges before race day, you can be guaranteed to find some interesting “obstacles” at the event.

Participants can expect to have to jump through flames, crawl through mud under barbed wire, scale walls and do some rope balancing. Sounds easy, huh?

Between The Mud Day and the Spartan Race, it is definitely the year to get down and dirty in Provence!
