Women Who Dare to Bare is a local initiative that is raising funds for cancer research worldwide with the launch of their 2014 calendar.

We recently met with Leila Nafa (pictured above) to find out more about the new charitable organisation with which she is involved, Women Who Dare To Bare. They will be raising funds for cancer research through the sale of their 2014 calendar, which features twelve lovely ladies from the yachting industry who have dared to bare!

Where did the idea for the calendar come from?

Linda Gardhage – aka Loopy, wanted to celebrate her 40th birthday party by focusing on cancer research, as she had discovered that a number of good friends in the industry were suffering from the disease. She ended up at a lunch with Linda Alaniz (the photographer) who had already done a number of calendars in black and white for the local Biot and Valbonne Fire Brigades. She suggested a great fund raising idea to accompany the party. As the idea grew so did the calendar. Following in the footsteps of the film ‘Calendar Girls’, it became an excellent opportunity to gather the influence and support of the girls from the industry.

Who is involved with it?

Founder Linda Gardhage, our photographer Linda Alaniz, and myself, Leila Nafa looking after the sales and marketing of calendar.

How did you recruit your models? And were they all willing participants?

The girls were very willing to participate. After having met with Linda Alaniz, the girls were very inspired to pose for the calendar. Linda Gardhage asked many of the girls from local yachts, mainly M/Y Rahal where she works. All the girls in the calendar are employed within the yachting industry, and have been based in the Antibes area for many years. Our community is of great importance to us all.

When is the official launch?

We will be officially launching the calendar at 7pm on Saturday 20th April at the Acrew Crew Lounge at the Antibes Yacht Show.

How much have you raised to date? And how much do you hope to raise?

So far we have raised €6,500. We have printed 2,000 calendars in total, and each calendar is being sold for €20, so our target is €40,000

When do the calendars go on sale and where can people get them?

The Calendars will be on sale as of Thursday 18th April at the Antibes Yacht Show. Thereafter, we will have them on sale at various locations throughout the region – please keep checking our Facebook page for updated details. Calendars are currently available at English book shops in Antibes and Monaco, with more locations being added all the time.

Thank you to Leila for taking the time out of her busy schedule to talk with us. We wish her and the rest of the team the best of luck with the calendar, and we urge you to please try and support this great cause if you can. And don’t forget to visit their Facebook page and click that LIKE button!
