On December 9, concert organizer “Musical Guest” and noted soprano Lussine Levoni team up in Cannes to perform for animal protection society La SPA Refuge Alpes-Maritimes
2018 has been a particularly distressing year in every respect, and animals have not been spared. Never before have so many four-legged companions been exposed to cruelty, never before have more cats and dogs been abandoned, never before have shelter been more densely packed and been pushed to the limit of their physical and financial capacity. It is therefore particularly heartwarming to see that good, kind and caring people still exist, willing to put their talent in the service of those poor creatures and the ones who give it their all to take care of them. The lyrical recital at Cannes’ Espace Miramar on Sunday, December 9 at 17 h, featuring soprano Lussina Levoni accompanied by master pianist Patrick Nebbula, is one such event: all proceeds go to the Cannes-Le Cannet shelter of animal protection society La SPA Alpes-Maritimes. The event is part of a nationwide pet adoption drive and fund collection benefitting animal welfare organizations on that weekend.
Lussine Levoni is a household name in opera lovers’ circles. The Armenian-born soprano who now resides in Paris has performed internationally for over ten years. Critics rave of her pure and distinctive voice which has earned her many prestigious international awards. In this recital, she interprets some of the most beautiful arias by Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Bellini, Donizetti, and Rimsky-Korsakov. On the piano that night, another remarkable musician, well known in France and particularly beloved in Cannes: Musical Guest’s artistic director Patrick Nebbula. Following the recital, the public is invited to meet the artists over a glass of complimentary champagne.
In fact, it was Patrick Nebbula who some years ago had the original idea to create a series of lyrical recitals for Cannes. In 2017 the concept became a reality with a first cycle of five high caliber concerts, organized by Musical Guest, and it was so well accepted that a second cycle is currently underway. Following Lussine Levoni’s appearance on December 9, three more quality concerts are scheduled through the end of the season in March 2019.
Along with its cultural mission, Musical Guest also dedicates one of its concerts per cycle to a good cause. If this year, it’s the SPA’s turn, it was the French sea rescue non-profit organization Société Nationale de Sauvetage en Mer in 2017 that benefitted from this gracious gesture.
Whether you are a lover of classical music or of animals, there is a very good reason for you and your family and friends to attend this extraordinary concert and help Christmas come early this year for La SPA’s little protégés. Well-considered adoption projects are of course also encouraged and a shelter adoption is always preferable to purchasing a pet from a dealer, but all animal protection societies emphasize the fact that adoption is a long-term engagement and should not be entered into spontaneously. La SPA https://www.facebook.com/RefugeSpaAlpesMaritimes/ is looking forward to your visit on December 8 and 9, and of course year round.
