The exhibition “Milano, per amore” is a tribute to Giorgio Armani’s deep connection to the city of Milan and to the world of art. And of course, to his timeless fashion.
There are names that transcend fashion – Giorgio Armani is one of them. For decades, the maestro has shaped an aesthetic defined by quiet clarity and disciplined elegance, setting international standards along the way.
Milan, his adopted home, has always been the wellspring of his creativity. But other places, too, have left their mark – Saint-Tropez, Forte dei Marmi, and above all Pantelleria, a wild and elemental island of volcanic rock and wind. “I love to travel, but I don’t like to leave. That’s why I wanted a scent that smells like a holiday,” Armani once said – a sentiment that led to the creation of olfactory icons like Acqua di Giò and Cyprès Pantelleria.
Now, the island honours him in return: Pantelleria’s airport will soon bear his name – a quiet yet powerful gesture.

To mark the 50th anniversary of his creative journey, the Pinacoteca di Brera dedicates an exhibition to Armani. But this is not a retrospective. It’s a dialogue between fashion and fine art. Armani’s designs are placed in conversation with paintings that have shaped Italy’s cultural history. Fabrics, lines, and shadows resonate in harmony with the country’s artistic heritage.
Armani’s connection to Brera runs deep. He lived, worked, and was inspired here. In 1993, the Accademia di Belle Arti awarded him an honorary degree – a recognition of his unwavering vision: timeless, precise, alive.
“Armani was never just fashion,” says Angelo Crespi, director of the Pinacoteca. His creations blend seamlessly into the museum’s artistic narrative. “Fashion as decorative art is welcome at Brera,” adds deputy director Chiara Rostagno.

More than 120 selected pieces from the ARMANI/Archivio are on display – including iconic looks, international loans, and never-before-seen creations. All presented on invisible mannequins, in the spirit of Armani himself: the focus is on movement, line, and form. No distractions. No spectacle. Just the pure silhouette.
The exhibition reveals Armani’s artistic vocabulary: a radical reimagining of tailoring, a quiet sophistication in colour, texture, and craftsmanship. Subtle embroidery, neutral – yet never empty – tones. Every detail feels intentional, restrained, and for that very reason, profoundly impactful.
Here, fashion becomes a medium for perspective, spirit, and identity. A bridge between Brera and Armani, between painting and couture, past and present.
A quiet dialogue – as powerful as it is lasting.

Giorgio Armani is a global icon of elegance and innovation. Known as the master of quiet luxury, he revolutionized fashion with his minimalist tailoring, neutral tones, and effortless sophistication. Since founding his label in 1975, Armani has redefined modern style — from red carpets to everyday wear — blending Italian craftsmanship with timeless vision.
The Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan’s prestigious Academy of Fine Arts, was founded in 1776 by Maria Theresa of Austria as part of her vision to promote education and the arts across the Habsburg territories. Located in the grand Palazzo Brera, the academy quickly became a cultural cornerstone, nurturing generations of influential artists, sculptors, and designers. It remains to this day a vital force in Italian and international art education, blending classical foundations with contemporary innovation.

Sharing the same historic building is the Pinacoteca di Brera, one of Italy’s foremost art museums. Established in the early 19th century under Napoleon Bonaparte, the Pinacoteca was originally conceived as a gallery to accompany the academy, offering students direct access to masterworks of Italian painting. Today, it houses an exceptional collection spanning the greats of the Renaissance and beyond, from Raphael and Caravaggio to Mantegna and Modigliani. Together, the Accademia and the Pinacoteca form a unique nexus of artistic heritage, education, and inspiration in the heart of Milan.
