The Statue of Liberty has arrived on the shores of the Côte d’Azur, maybe somewhat more diminutive in stature than anticipated!
The Ville de Nice is second to none when it comes to celebrating special occasions, they really know how to pull out all the stops. Today was no different with the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty on the Quai des États-Unis in Nice.
The Mayor of Nice, M. Christian Estrosi and the President of the Conseil Général, M. Éric Ciotti, were both in attendance, amongst other dignitories, bands, and military personnel. The unveiling of la petite Lady Liberty (the statue measures a little over one metre!) was performed by M. Estrosi in front of a crowd numbering in their hundreds.
Today also marked the opening of the revamped Quai des États-Unis, now featuring a much widened promenade and new bicycle lanes, but at the expense of two lanes of the roadway. Should be interesting come the summer rush – our advice, just leave the car at home!
