(Re)inventing the Future with TEDx Cannes

TEDx Cannes returns to the Palais des Festivals et Congrès for its third edition this April, promising to once again spark discussion and debate.

TEDx is a programme of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience: the ‘x’ signifies an independently organized TED event.

The theme of this year’s event in Cannes is Transitions: Inventing our future. Choice or Constraint? We all are living through transition and change on a daily basis, sometimes without even realising that it is happening, other times without any control over the fact that it is happening.

TEDx Cannes 2016 - Transition
Technological determinism. Social shaping of technology. Climate change. Digital, socio-economic, and ecological change. The world evolves and sweeps us along with it. What can we do? Can we decide or even invent our own future?

This is the question that TEDxCannes 2016 poses.

Be they major or minor, the transitions of our time are as much opportunities for introspection, for reinvention, as they are multiple-choice questions, the answers to which are all singularly challenging.

The speakers for the 2016 event include:-

Gilles Lartigot – Our food production strikingly resembles that of industrial goods. Yet, we are what we eat. Not only do our dietary choices directly influence our health, they also depict the future of our children

Minik Rosing – A professor of Geology, hailing from Greenland, Rosing has made an incredible discovery: Earth is much older than we thought, we’re off by millions of years

Alexandra Baldeh Loras – Alexandra was voted “Woman of the Year” by the Organization of Women Entrepreneurs of Brazil

Florence Escaravage – Means of communication abound like never before, especially in the dating field, but finding ‘the one’ was never this hard. Romantic relations. Dissected.

Frédéric Dayan – Health issues have always been one of humanity’s main concerns. But today, digital technology and big data can come to our rescue.

Other speakers include cartoonist Jim Toomey, Professor Maude Bonenfant, punk entrepreneur Duc Ha Duong, Jean-Jacques Juillet, director of the Exomars Programme, Khojesta Ebrahimi, a teacher and researcher at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, singer-songwriter Luciole, and art curator, Alice Audouin.

TEDx Cannes Transitions: Inventing our future. Choice or Constraint? takes place at the Palais des Festivals et Congrès on Saturday, 30th April, 2016, running from 9:45am and finishing at 8:30pm with the Grand Cocktail at the Hôtel Majestic Barrière (exclusively for Cocktail pass holders). Tickets cost from €100 and may be reserved online.

The conference is bilingual (French and English), and simultaneous translation headsets will be available. The dress code is casual.
