Dust off your best pink outfit and get ready to join hundreds of others all dressed up to the nines for the 7th edition of the Pink Ribbon walk this March in Monaco.

Lots of cancer survivors will be on hand as well as their friends, neighbours, family members, kids and even pets for what has now become a not-to-be-missed event in the Principality. A good occasion to have fun, while supporting a good cause during the 5km walk around Port Hercule and its environs. And while the colour pink is often considered one of the happiest hues, it also has come to represent hope for all those women, and sometimes men, who are battling breast cancer.

This disease remains the most common form of feminine cancer worldwide, comprising 16% of all female cancers, but it can be beaten. When detected at an early stage, it can usually be cured, but the chances of survival rapidly decrease as the tumour spreads. It is for this reason that information and early detection save lives.

Pink Ribbon is a worldwide campaign but the Monegasque movement, which was founded in the Spring 2011, is an independent charity that focuses its actions on the region and the Principality. Through various fun events (Poker tournaments, introduction to paddle boarding…), and under the guidance of the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, its goal is to educate people on the importance of early detection and the necessity to create an environment where women who have found a lump in their breast do not have to wait too long to have a biopsy or receive treatment.

So why hesitate? There is no need to be in top shape to participate, all that really matters is that you join in and have fun. And if you cannot not find your rose-coloured glasses, don’t worry – chances are that you will be drowned in an ocean of pink anyway!

The Pink Ribbon Walk will start at 10:30am on Sunday, 11th March and entry costs €30. You can register online, pay by cheque, or sign-up at the Running Expo the day before the event, between 9am and 5pm.
