We are extremely lucky to have so many amazing authors and thinkers living on our doorstep and we are honoured and proud to host them at the bookshop.
This month we wanted to shine some light on two remarkable people who will be joining us this month.
Leadership thinker, keynote speaker, author, award-winning humanitarian and former senior advisor at the UN, Elizabeth Nyamayaro, will be at the bookshop on Saturday October 10th for a conversation around her memoir I Am a Girl from Africa.
Five years after her Scribner-published and New York Times-reviewed memoir, she will be reflecting on the people, relationships, acts of generosity, and unexpected moments that transformed a child growing up in a hut in rural Zimbabwe into a global leader who would advise presidents, influence policy, and build a movement reaching 193 countries. Together, we’ll explore a question that matters to all of us: What if the story we’ve been told about success is incomplete? And what does it truly take to succeed? Join us on Saturday, October 10th between 5pm and 7pm for a conversation on success, belonging, and the people who shape our lives.

Elizabeth Nyamayaro is an award-winning humanitarian and former United Nations advisor on gender equality. Born in Zimbabwe, Elizabeth has worked at the forefront of global development for over two decades, improving the lives of underserved populations, and has held leadership roles at the World Bank, the World Health Organization, UNAIDS, and UN Women. She is also the founder of the global HeForShe solidarity movement for gender equality.
Award-winning author Timothy Jay Smith will be back at the bookshop on October 29th between 5pm to 7pm with a new mystery set in post-Soviet era Poland. The Fourth Courier is a fast-paced espionage thriller which opens in 1992 in Warsaw. The communist era has just ended. A series of grisly murders becomes an international case when it’s feared that the victims may have been couriers smuggling nuclear material out of the defunct Soviet Union. Timothy Jay Smith’s depiction of post-cold war Poland is gloomily atmospheric and murky in a world where nothing is quite as it seems. Suspenseful, thrilling, and smart, The Fourth Courier brings together a straight white FBI agent and gay black CIA officer as they team up to uncover a gruesome plot involving murder, radioactive contraband, narcissistic government leaders, and unconscionable greed.

Timothy Jay Smith is a multi-award-winning author, screenwriter, and playwright. From a young age, he developed a ceaseless wanderlust that has taken him around the world many times. En route, he’s found the characters that people his work. Polish cops and Greek fishermen, mercenaries and arms dealers, resilient families and wannabe terrorists: he hung with them all in an unparalleled international career that had him smuggle banned plays from behind the Iron Curtain, manoeuver through Occupied Territories, represent the U.S. at the highest levels of foreign governments, and stow away aboard a “devil’s barge” for a three-day crossing from Cape Verde that landed him in an African jail.
Wishing everyone a cosy and comforting October and we look forward to seeing you in the shop soon. Don’t forget, all RIVIERA BUZZ readers get a 5% discount instore, and you can stay up to date with all the latest goings on and book releases via Instagram.
