The 2013 Alpes-Maritimes Marathon Achieves IAAF Bronze Label Status

The annual Alpes-Maritimes marathon takes place this November, along one of the world’s most beautiful courses overlooking the Mediterranean.

One of the local sporting events of the year, the Nice-Cannes marathon, takes place on Sunday, 10th November, the course following the stunning coastline between the two Azuréen cities.

From the start on the iconic Promenade des Anglais in Nice, the race passes through some of the most beautiful locations on the French Riviera, including Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes/Juan-les-Pins, and Vallauris Golfe-Juan, before finishing up on La Croisette in Cannes.

This year for the first time, the marathon has been awarded the title ‘IAAF Bronze Label’ – an international classification of quality and service. In addition, the event has also been added to the calendar of the French Athletics Federation, making it a qualifying race for the French Championships and giving the race official ‘International FFA’ status.

There are three categories of event in this year’s marathon – the 42.195km marathon itself, a new 2 x half marathon relay (21.1km each leg), and the traditional relay race, run in teams of 6, allowing each runner to run at their own pace and to their own rhythm.

Registration for the races is open until the end of October, and costs €80 for the full marathon, €95 for the 2 x 21km relay and €270 for a team of 6 for the team relay. All participants must also submit a current medical certificate with their application, as stipulated in the rules.

There will also be a Marathon Expo village located on the Promenade des Anglais, some 2,000 sq.m. dedicated to all things running, both for the spectator and the enthusiast. The village will be open from Thursday 7th to Saturday, 9th November.
