Monaco’s main landmarks are once again turning pink this October to support the fight against breast cancer.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and for the past few years over 200 cities and 40 countries all around the world have been turning pink to show their support to the victims of this terrible illness and promote early detection. For the 6th consecutive time, the Principality of Monaco will be part of this national campaign when on Friday, 7th October, at nightfall and at the instigation of Pink Ribbon Monaco, Prince’s Palace of Monaco, the Monte-Carlo Casino, Hôtel Metropole Monte-Carlo, the Yacht Club, and the Thermès Marins de Monte-Carlo will be illuminated in pink lights. A visually beautiful gesture making a strong statement!

Founded in 2011, Pink Ribbon Monaco is an independent charity that focuses its actions on the region and the Principality. Its main goal is to educate people on the importance of early detection and the necessity to create an environment where women who have found a lump in their breast do not have to wait too long to have a biopsy or receive a treatment. In that particular case, fast medical response is indeed as important as early detection.

The association also donates to the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) all the funds it is raising through the various events it organises, such as the annual Pink Ribbon Walk which takes place every March in and around Port Hercule.

Pink Ribbon Monaco has been contributing to the hospital’s new state-of-the-art mammography technology, the Selenia Dimensions 800D tomosynthesis system, which optimises early detection and reduces the radiation dose required for the diagnosis by allowing millimetre-sized sections of breast tissue to be studied.

A press conference and cocktail reception will be held before the ceremony, with updates regarding recent developments in breast cancer treatment, screening and prevention in the hospital. Then, everybody will be invited for the lighting-up on the Casino Square. Do not hesitate to join in and take photos of the various monuments.
