Local artist Mitch Waite sadly passed away on the 10th November. There will be a special memorial event at his gallery in Vence next week.

Mitch Waite began his professional career 25 years ago in England. After a 5 year excursion to Kenya in 1995, he returned to Europe and set up his studio in the South of France.

He successfully operated an art school running painting holidays in the area, with students coming from all over the world to learn from his unique teaching style. In 2010, he opened a gallery in Vence specializing in street scenes, landscapes and portraits in oil.

“The most important thing for me is to connect to something in the subject that touches my emotions. That becomes the driving force of each painting. The light and atmosphere of a dramatic landscape or a busy street, or the character and sentiment in a portrait. A painting can reveal so much, I never cease to be amazed and I can’t imagine that I could ever lose the desire to keep searching for more and to go deeper.”

Hanna, his wife, would very much like to share with you all a moment of remembrance and give you all a chance to say goodbye to Mitch and pay your respects. She has organised a memorial event at the gallery in Vence on Saturday the 30th of November.

Mitch loved being in his studio painting, and Hanna feels that this is the best place to celebrate his life and his achievements as an artist, and to remember him as a friend, teacher, father and husband. It will be an all-day event for people to drop by when they can, between 11am and 5pm.

She hopes that you will be able to join her and their two boys on this very special day.
