Looking for a word that describes Monte-Carlo Fashion Week? Look no further, that word is sensational. This glittering extravaganza is all about fashion in a world-renowned, glamorous setting – Monte-Carlo.
There are other places with rich history of fashion such as New York, London, Paris and Milan but Monte Carlo, small though it is, will be showing amazing creations from top tier international designers and brands. It opens its 12th edition on the 22nd of April on the Observatory Deck of the Monaco Yacht Club, a prestigious and perfect location to show off prestigious fashion and perfection!
Now let’s talk designers. Past Monaco Fashion weeks have been graced with personalties and designers, names to conjure with such as Campbell, Feretti, Cavalli, Hilfiger, Larkin – to name but a few. There will be so many incredibly gifted and talented people featured during the show this year, It is guaranteed to mesmerising and a feast for the eyes. Our local brilliant Beach & Cashmere will be there together with other Monaco based designers and brands. The is also the fascinating work of Gracey Owusu-Agyemang and, a designer for red carpet events, Mami Okano, who will be there. That is just a tiny glimpse of the truly amazing creators and brands that will be parading down the runways!
Not many people know this, Monte Carlo has its own body that deals with fashion in the principality, the Chambre Monegasque de la Mode which was founded by Frederica Nardoni Spinetta and is its president. Its mission is to promote Monte Carlo as a showcase and hub for fashion attracting designers who are looking for a marketplace that is glamorous, inventive and forward thinking with an emphasis on sustainability and circular fashion.
Sustainability is always in focus! Oh yes, even in the world of fashion, haute couture, everyone is conscious that doing the right thing for the future of our planet is paramount. It doesn’t mean that things become boring, far from it … the excitement of new trends and designs will always be there and will certainly part of Monte-Carlo Fashion Week. Part of the event at the Yacht Club will include a face to face with Frederico Marchetti, founder of Yoox Net-a-Porter and chair of the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Fashion Task Force.
A new initiate will be unveiled at the Yacht Club which shows that, along with glamour and beauty, there needs to be awareness of the world outside of fashion. This laudable initiative will be to address violence against women.
Stella Jean is returning to Fashion Week to open the runway shows in her inimitable style showing off her amazing collection, so dynamic. This will be followed by collections featuring Monegasque and a whole array of high level international brands. The closing runway events will bring forward fresh young designers from Central Saint Martins in London, an incubator of great talent, with Pavillion Bosio – School of Fine Arts of Monaco setting the scene. It will be exciting!
There is so much more to this event than just beautiful, stylish and imaginative couture. It is an all enveloping event that is forward thinking and rejoicing in the creativity in our world and our responsibility for its future.
