The New Zealand director, Jane Campion, has been announced as the President of the Jury for the 67th Festival de Cannes this coming May.
Following in the footsteps of Hollywood great, Steven Spielberg, Oscar and Palme d’Or winner Jane Campion has been chosen to preside over the jury for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
Campion’s career as director, screenwriter, and producer spans more than three decades. She is no stranger to the tapis rouge de Cannes, having won the best short film award for ‘Peel‘ in 1986, and to date is the only female director to have been awarded the Palme d’Or for ‘The Piano‘ in 1993. She was also head of the jury for the Cinéfondation and Short Film sections in last year’s festival.
“Since I first went to Cannes with my short films in 1986, I have had the opportunity to see the festival from many sides and my admiration for this Queen of film festivals has only grown larger. At the Cannes Film Festival they manage to combine and celebrate the glamour of the industry, the stars, the parties, the beaches, the business, while rigorously maintaining the festival’s seriousness about the Art and excellence of new world cinema”, says Campion.

She continues “It is this world wide inclusiveness and passion for film at the heart of the festival which makes the importance of the Cannes Film Festival indisputable. It is a mythical and exciting festival where amazing things can happen, actors are discovered, films are financed careers are made, I know this because that is what happened to me!”
The 67th Festival de Cannes runs from Wednesday 14th to Sunday, 25th May, 2014 in the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.
