Mark Duncan realised early in his legal career that law was not for him. Yes, the money was great, but he did not warm to the idea that money alone would lead to a fulfilling life.

He did not want end up with all the trappings of a wonderful career and find out he had missed out on life itself. That desire to enjoy life led Mark to come to the Riviera.

It wasn’t straight into yachting though. In fact, the exclusive world of yachting was not something he knew anything about let alone targeting as a direction to go in. As with a lot of things in life, once you are into a community, especially one as vibrant as on the Riviera, the opportunity to meet people and expand horizons abounds. So it was that Mark found himself in yachting.

Anyone would think that yacht marketing, especially when it comes to super yachts, would have a business model that people could follow. That was definitely not the case when Mark arrived on the scene. He had to learn how to market himself, there was no guide. This sparked the idea for Mark to write what is effectively a bible on yachting marketing entitled, unsurprisingly, Smart Yacht Marketing 101!

Mark had no idea that the book would be anything other than a ‘how to’ guide for those going into yachting. He was mistaken. The book has been read by prospective buyers, yacht captains seeking advice and others, many of whom are not in the yachting business. Mark has now produced an audiobook which will be coming out soon, his dulcet and very listenable voice reading from his own book! A voice that was on Riviera Radio for several years.

Marketing strategies that work in niche markets dealing with high and ultra high wealth individuals are special by definition. However, as with all marketing, there is also something that can be taken and applied to other market sectors. Smart Yacht Marketing 101 is no exception, it is well worth reading even if you are not in yachting.
