Ironman® France took place in Nice today, the course along the Promenade resplendant under blue skies and the sparkle of the Med.
One of the toughest endurance events out there, some 2,500 competitiors from the world over lined up at 6:25am this morning to compete in this year’s Ironman® France, which started with the 3.8km swim. This was followed by the 180km cycle, and finished off with a full marathon of 42.185km.
The winner of this 9th edition, Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde, crossed the finish line in a very impressive time of 8:08:57
Sadly, a competitior died during the cycling part of the competition, and authorities are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Our thoughts go out to the athlete’s family and friends.
