Odyssey in the Hôtel Métropole in Monte-Carlo is definitely going to be one of the hottest and hippest spots in the Principality this summer.
One of the world’s most renowned chefs, Joël Robuchon, has teamed up with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld to add another touch of glam to the prestigious Hôtel Métropole in Monte-Carlo, with a new rooftop pool bar and restaurant named Odyssey.
Between Robuchon and the hotel, this is just the continuation of a long-lasting love story, as the French chef already has two other restaurants on the premises: the 2 Michelin star Restaurant de Jöel Robuchon, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine, and the 1-star Yoshi which includes a sushi bar and a Japanese-inspired garden.
For the creative director of Chanel however, this is a fantastic way to showcase his photographic skills and a not-to-be-missed occasion to give his own interpretation of Homer’s epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Indeed, one of the main attraction of the place is a fresco-style mural entitled “Ulysses’ Journey around the Mediterranean Sea” (pictured above).
Made up of twenty impressive glass panels, measuring 18×3 metres and featuring photos of models in custom-designed togas portraying the various adventures of the legendary Greek king, this mural-style installation is backlit by LEDs which change according to the surrounding natural lighting to create effects of movement.
Open since the 1st of June, the restaurant, which can seat up to 30 customers, serves light and refined Mediterranean cuisine. It caters only to hotel guests up to 6pm, but come the evening, it transforms itself into a cocktail bar where one can enjoy ‘chic fingerfood’, while listening to live music and DJs in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. What else to you need?
With the nights getting warmer, the odds are that the Odyssey is going to be one of the talking points of the summer!
