The Europäischer Hof Baden-Baden, located right in the heart of the city, is a place where cosmopolitanism has always been a matter of course.

Once celebrated as the ‘summer capital of Europe’, the spa town of Baden-Baden still exudes that special atmosphere between Belle Époque charm and a modern mindset: sophisticated, cultured and pleasantly unexcited.
Style reveals itself here on many levels – in The Vault spa, in the hotel’s own Porsche Studio at the Porsche Centre Baden-Baden and in the elegance of the building itself. A trio that perfectly describes Baden-Baden: aesthetics, quality and precision.
We are invited to the rooftop bar by Europäischer Hof director Flory (pictured below). The view sweeps over the rooftops of the city and on to the Black Forest – nature and culture in perfect balance. Down below, the small town pulsates with life, while above, glasses clink. In the distance, the sonorous roar of a sports-car can be heard: a Porsche drives by.

Mr Flory, it’s beautiful here. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer our questions.
Baden-Baden: a stage for the elegant world – a place to slow down! What makes Baden-Baden a destination for travellers who want to enjoy a conscious experience today? How do you convey slowing down, culture and luxury?
We create space for breaks. While the Riviera becomes lively in summer – towels side by side, hardly a parking space in sight, long queues in front of museums – Baden-Baden focuses on soothing reduction. Here, the day does not begin in a crowd, but in silence. Morning rituals such as yoga or Pilates celebrate slowness as a luxury. Conscious breathing instead of sensory overload, space instead of queues. Those who want to start the day before breakfast with a walk or a jog can step right outside the front door of the Europäischer Hof into a green cathedral: Lichtentaler Allee. Ancient trees line the path, providing shade and energy and allowing your thoughts to wander. What and who might these venerable giants have seen? Big names, elegant strollers, happy trysts. And sometimes there is a hint of Chanel in the air, left behind by passing walkers, while the fresh morning air of the avenue awakens our senses.
Horsepower and leisure – both are part of the Baden-Baden lifestyle. In the hotel’s own Porsche Studio, a car is always waiting, ready to hit the winding roads of the Black Forest, which are perfect for an exhilarating drive. Switzerland and France’s Alsace region are just a tap of the accelerator away. Those looking for a real racetrack atmosphere can experience the Hockenheimring up close — speed and adrenaline included.
Back at the hotel, The Vault spa opens up a world of elegance, tranquillity and regenerative care. Perhaps first the drive in the Porsche, then the massage. Or vice versa. Boredom? Unknown. Instead, there is plenty of leisure and moments you will never forget.
Tradition reinterpreted. Mr Flory, how do you manage to preserve the tradition of the Europäischer Hof while at the same time setting new accents?
Tradition is not preserved here, but rather reimagined. Design thrives on the tension between preservation and renewal: Rooms should not only be beautiful, but also have character. This requires respect for the past and courage for the new. Stucco and statement. Parquet and personality.
Luxury in transition: What does luxury mean to you personally?
More time. More attention. More space for genuine encounters. Luxury is not just what you own, it’s what you get to experience. In Baden-Baden, luxury also means serenity. The city is one of the safest in Europe. Strolling through the streets at night after a concert at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden – voilà. In Baden-Baden, one thing above all else accompanies you: the reassuring feeling of not having to worry about anything. A wonderful feeling – especially in these times.
Authenticity and encounters: many people talk about them. How do they feel at the Europäischer Hof?
Genuine hospitality cannot be staged. It comes from people who act with conviction – not according to a script, but with a sense of the moment. Spacious corridors not only create architectural breadth, but also space for conversations, spontaneous encounters and inspiring coincidences through exchanges between people who may come from very different worlds and meet here.
What kind of guests are drawn here?
People who are looking for more than just comfort. People with curiosity.
- Business & Bliss: Business travellers are also increasingly discovering Baden-Baden for themselves. The conference rooms at the Europäischer Hof combine professional infrastructure with the kind of quality of life that fosters creative thinking. Many guests extend their stay and bring their families with them. Work and pleasure go hand in hand here.
- Guests & health: Some guests come to find peace and quiet after medical procedures, while others come specifically to regenerate body and mind. Preventive health concepts, individually tailored nutrition and holistic treatments combine here to form a modern understanding of well-being. Longevity is not just a buzzword, but a way of life. Every stay is an invitation to recharge one’s batteries and find inner balance.
- Young guests: Even young guests discover wonders in Baden-Baden, for example in the interactive music museum TOCCARION at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden or in creative workshops at the Frieder Burda Museum. The city knows how to bring generations together. And, of course, there are excursions into nature!

Three words: If you had to describe the Europäischer Hof in three words:
Authenticity. Elegance. Encounter.
And on a personal note?
It’s the little moments – a guest’s smile, an unexpected conversation, the scent of flowers in the atrium or the play of light on the old stucco ceilings.
Let’s raise a glass. To history. To the present.
When we think about escaping the stress of everyday life, we often dream of faraway places. Baden-Baden offers space: for tranquillity, encounters, art and enjoyment. Belle Époque charm meets modern lifestyle, nature meets culture. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the spa town remains an elegant retreat – for wellness, cuisine, shopping and inspiring encounters.
Trivia for history buffs
The House of Baden Urach, intertwined through marriage with the House of Grimaldi of Monaco, shows how the high nobility of southern Germany and the Mediterranean principality once came together. Perhaps this is the secret behind why Baden-Baden and the French Riviera seem so familiar to each other: two stages of the same lifestyle, summer and winter, the Black Forest and the Mediterranean. Both are beautiful – and one does not exclude the other.

Our hotel recommendation? The Europäischer Hof – not only because of the beautiful lamps that adorn the building, but because of that effortless mixture of style, warmth and serenity that cannot be planned.
