How Angela Miklas Defines Luxury

The designer embodies a quiet luxury – a confident, understated elegance that relies on subtle branding: sometimes blind-stamped, sometimes delicately embossed in gold on leather. Despite this restraint, her creations command a remarkable presence. Her handbags are not mere accessories but cherished pieces – crafted for those who value individuality.

Each Miklas bag combines elegant design with a certain je ne sais quoi – an idea that makes every piece unique. Quality, exclusivity, and individuality form the foundation of the brand. For the wearer, it means a bag that accompanies her daily life, adapts seamlessly to any look, and quietly asserts urban sophistication. They follow the modern city woman through her day – flexible, elegant, unmistakable.

The signature piece, Freya, perfectly embodies this approach: its reversible flap creates two distinct looks – as versatile as its owner. Bold bi-colour and tri-colour combinations add a touch of distinction, and for a personal touch, colors and leather can be customized.

Production takes place in the German city of Offenbach near Frankfurt that, thanks to the International Leather Goods Fair (I.L.M.), has long been a centre of global leather culture. Additional workshops are located in Wertheim, another German region with a rich manufacturing tradition, and, for larger volumes, in Croatia.

“Good design cannot exist without craftsmanship,” says Miklas. Every bag begins as a fabric prototype in the atelier, is tested, discarded, refined – and only then executed in fine leather.

The materials speak for themselves: carefully selected leather from Germany and Italy, German threads and zippers, and hardware from Italy. Every seam, edge, and surface reflects precision. Tactility is paramount: high-quality leather is designed to feel familiar from day one – and to age gracefully over the years.

For Miklas, sustainability is a given. The premium cowhide is a byproduct of the meat industry and free of chromium VI, PCP, and AZO dyes. All suppliers are members of the Leather Working Group (LWG) – certified according to standards that minimize harmful substances, reduce water and energy consumption, and ensure fair production conditions. Supply chains are regularly audited.

Through long-lasting materials, Miklas creates luxury objects that consciously reject fast consumption.

Angela Miklas does not work by the seasons. New models appear only when truly ready – not because the market demands them. Exclusivity is ensured through limited editions and collaborations with retailers, artists, or architecture-inspired design studios. Curated concept stores and international partnerships are natural extensions of her philosophy of design, craftsmanship, and personalization.

The Story Behind the Brand

Originally an art director, Miklas realized early on that advertising did not make her happy. “The creative freedom to make things that bring joy – that has always been my passion,” she says.

A personal gift for a friend laid the foundation for her business: the idea of creating a high-quality everyday bag that adapts to the individual style of its owner.

Miklas’ designs resemble small architectural sculptures: every line follows a function, every angle a purpose. “The industry demands speed – I deliver permanence,” she says. Many clients remain loyal to a single model for years – not out of habit, but because the bag has become part of their daily life.

Her vision of luxury is quiet, consistent, and substance-driven. Like other labels of the new design elite, Miklas prioritises reduction, material integrity, and craftsmanship.

Miklas thinks long-term, and emotionally. The Côte d’Azur serves as a resonance space: light, art, architecture, and lifestyle blend into a natural stage for her bags. Interdisciplinary collaborations, concept stores, or curated retail platforms along the Riviera could serve as organic extensions of her work.

Angela Miklas favours durability over speed, substance over show. Her bags follow no trends, ignore seasonal cycles, and emerge from intuition, craftsmanship, and clear values. They are reduced expressions of complex production, and precisely for this reason, are sought after worldwide.

In a fashion world that often shouts, Angela Miklas embodies a luxury that does not call out – it simply arrives.

Born in the countryside in Germany and naturally connected to nature, I have always appreciated living in big cities and different countries. Nature and culture have always been inspiring teachers. I am passionate about society, nature, fashion, art and the subtle interrelationships between them - as well as the exciting spaces that arise from them. Bordighera and the sea are my other loves.
