It is always a delight to talk to Alicia as I am left with a great feeling afterwards which is a rare and wonderful attribute. She is truly inspirational, there is no doubt about that.
Alicia’s ability to communicate rationally, but at the same time warmly, is awesome. Now, Alicia has once again written down her thoughts so that anyone can use her techniques to, essentially, inspire yourself by focussing on being in the moment. The book is called Being. It is fascinating to learn from someone who does so much and is a so energetic, a real DOer, but someone who also knows how to take out to simply just Be. Of course, we have heard before about ‘being in the moment’, knowing how to do it is the purpose of Being.
Alicia’s first book, Communicating Through Change, published in 2021, was an immediate hit. It looks very much like her new book, Being, will be even more popular! These books bring together her outlook on life, especially coping with difficult times, and, so importantly, provide practical ways so that others can benefit. Alicia practices what she preaches, those who have attended her TEDx talks, attended one of her conferences, been one of her students or simply knowing her, as I have, as a friend will attest to her ability to communicate effectively at a very human level.
As Alicia says, to some the fear of public speaking is akin to emotions brought on by a bereavement. That sounds far fetched, it isn’t. In both instance the deep emotion, whether it be fear or loss, are very much things of that moment. Alicia’s philosophy is to use even those moments to simply be in that moment, the feeling will pass and it is good to focus on that feeling. perhaps that is not the best explanation, Alicia can certainly break it down and express it far better than I, hence her book Being.
