The Monte-Carlo Television Festival returns to the Principality this coming June, with the stars of the small screen taking centre stage.
Just a few weeks after some of Hollywood’s biggest stars walked the red carpet in Cannes, the French Riviera is now getting ready to turn its attention to the small screen as the 53rd edition of the Monte Carlo Television Festival kicks off on June 9 at the Grimaldi Forum.
Presided this year by Franco-American actor and producer, Christophe Lambert, the five-day event will open with procedural crime drama Crossing Lines, a new 10-hour series featuring William Fichtner (Prison Break, Black Hawk Down), Marc Lavoine (My Wife Is an Actress), Gabriella Pession (Wilfred, Jesus), Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones, Brideshead Revisited), and Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Donald Sutherland, who will be honoured during the opening ceremony with the inaugural Crystal Nymph Award for his lifelong achievements in film and television.

Then it will be time for the competition. No less than eighty-one programs will vie this year for a coveted Golden Nymph with some highly-rated shows such as Breaking Bad, Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, Homeland, 30 Rock, Modern Family, and France’s Fais Pas Ci Fais Pas Ça, which won in 2009, competing in the TV Series category (Drama and Comedy). The other categories include News (Documentaries, TV News Items, 24 Hour News Programs), Television Films and Mini Series and TV Series.
The International TV Audience Award will reward the most popular shows throughout the world in 2012 based on the total viewing figures recorded in 66 countries over five continents. Three American drama series, House, CSI: Miami and The Mentalist, will compete for the drama award while The Bold and the Beautiful will try to hold onto its title in the Telenovela/Soap operas category against the Venezuelan series Eva Luna and the Spanish-language US-produced show La Casa De Al Lado (The House Next Door).”
Finally, in the absence of ‘Desperate Housewives‘, the only winner of the Comedy award since the category was launched in 2006, Two and A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and Mr Bean will compete for the award.
The winners will be revealed on June 13 during the closing ceremony which will be held in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
