On your bike! Time to celebrate the health and environmental benefits of cycling with the Fête du Vélo around Nice this coming weekend.
The 100th Tour de France may be passing through these parts in early July, but why not join with La Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, who officially launch the 17th annual Fête Nationale du Vélo this coming Friday, 31st May from 4:30pm at the Acropolis in Nice, and celebrate the joys of cycling? The event is being jointly organised with the Comité Départemental Olympique et Sportif (CDOS).
We all know the health benefits of exercise like cycling, and also how much more beneficial it is to the environment. The Vélo Bleu scheme, serving Nice and its environs, is a great way to explore the city, but also provides a very easy way to keep fit.
The Fête Nationale du Vélo continues on Saturday, 1st June, with numerous activities planned for throughout the day. If you are an early riser, you might like to participate in the randonné sportive, which departs from the Monument du Centenaire on the Promenade des Anglais at 7am, returning back to the Prom at approximately 9:30am.
There will also be cycling tours, allowing participants discover the local heritage and cultural spots. The tours will leave on the hour from the Plage du Galion on the Promenade des Anglais, starting at 2pm and finishing with the last tour at 5pm. You will need to book your place for this tour either online up to the 31st May, or on the day at the GSEM stand.
There are many other activities planned, including fitness classes, road safety tips from La Police Nationale, and a mountain biking demonstration by the Moto Club of La Gaude. These will all be taking place in or around the Expo Village being set up for the event.
